Came for brunch, really sweet spot. Tasty dishes and friendly service. Their chicken liver mousse was especially delicious!
Juniper Food & Wine was our first restaurant stop on our two week road trip to Nova Scotia. It was absolutely incredible, a true delight for your taste buds. Each dish was carefully prepared and you could tell that all the ingredients used were fresh and locally sourced. We asked the waitress how many people were in the kitchen and she explained - Chef Jeff (Head Chef/owner) the sous chef and the dishwasher. They are a true force that will truly put Wolfville on the map. We went to many high end restaurants following our experience at Juniper food & wine and ALL of them fell short. My hats off to Chef Jeff, the kitchen staff and servers as they all really brought food and service to the table at a standard that is truly hard to find.
A considered dinner experience ready to continue pushing Wolfville forward. We sat on their intimate patio right on Main Street, which in the evening had quieted down considerably. We had the marinated olives, baked potato beignets, and hodgepodge, all as sharing plates, finishing with the creme caramel with poached rhubarb. Each were well portioned and delicious - the hodgepodge especially was rich and fresh in all the right ways. We drank a glass of their L’Acadie Vineyards sparkling, which was disappointingly the only local wine available by the glass. The menu was also less vegetable-forward than would have been expected when surrounded by such bountiful produce. It would have been difficult for a vegetarian to enjoy this menu. These would be my only two areas for improvement - the service was lovely, attentive but not doting. Will return.
It was a limited offer steak and we got the last one. Honestly, I’m mad...because I know I’ll never be able to cook something this good. Every dish was seasoned perfectly - the mushrooms and gem salad were like a punch in the face of flavour. The beignet potatoes...wow... so so so good, light, crispy. The steak (40 for a 12oz) was a limited offer and was locally sourced and my goodness, I’ve never had wagyu, but I imagine that’s what it it’s like. Literally just melts in your mouth. Paired with a chimichurri and a dark jus, this hit on every level. Scallops were also delish. We’re coming back, end of story
Love this restaurant! They change some of their menu seasonally, and I love trying the different gnocchis - they have a different one every time I go, and tonight’s was incredible! Great service, and even got to sit outside despite it being a chillier evening, as they had a lovely outdoor heater keeping us warm!
We recently enjoyed an exceptional meal at Juniper. We started with a dozen oysters. All shucked cleanly and served with a classic mignionette and fresh grated horseradish. Fresh and sweet Irish Point PEI oysters are a great selection for this time of year. Nicely done! The Gnocchi feature was truly outstanding! This dish was bursting with big umami flavour and was a beautiful way to feature those gorgeous seasonal ramps. Everything else we enjoyed was really thoughtfully prepared and WELL SEASONED! HALLELUJAH! The little crunch of sea salt on the chocolate cream puff was stellar. You could taste the Bay! Highly recommend this intimate little spot for a lovely supper out.
Mushroom soup was amazing. Fish taco and fried chicken sandwhich were both unreal. I don’t know what I’m going to do with the rest of my life after this. 11/10
In the Google system, most 5 star ratings don’t really mean 5/5. Juniper really is a 5 star restaurant. The dishes are perfectly curated. From the delicious focaccia with flavoured butter to the golden textured Patatas Bravas to the expertly dressed tuna tartare with the most delicious turnip we’ve ever tasted. Everything was spot on. What could be so special about a fried chicken sandwich? The brioche bun had spring to it. The chicken as high quality as you can find. We didn’t leave enough room for other mains but for dessert the cream puffs impressed us with their texture. The creme brulee (not pictured) was well textbook with a delicious bit of white chocolate whipped cream and rhubarb jam. The ambience itself was very nice and the style of the venue was obvious. Our host was responsive. Tasteful folk music played to set the mood of the Valley. It’s funny. Sometimes you go to a restaurant with very high expectations and your left disappointed. We knew nothing of Juniper and the only thing that we could accuse it of is being too perfect.
